Class of 2017
Mayor Anita Dugatto is pleased to announce the selection of
the 11th anniversary class for the Derby Hall of Fame.
This year's class encompasses sports, medicine, local history and religion and
some may be surprised at the enormous success of each of these
individuals.
Mayor Dugatto said, "The additions to Hall of Fame
this year are impressive and show the strength and vision of the Valley
forefathers that made it great!"
Brief descriptions of the members of the Class of 2017 (Click on

Dr. Ambrose Beardsley was a
physician, historian, writer and acclaimed orator best known for
his role in working with Samuel Orcutt to produce the
definitive history of early Derby - "The History of the Old
Town of Derby, Connecticut, 1642-1880." However his work in
Derby goes well beyond his role with the book.

Jerry Denny was a major league
baseball player whose main claim to fame was to be the last
position player to play his entire career without using a
fielding mitt. His baseball trail eventually brought him to
Derby to play and coach the Derby Angels. His baseball career
was truly more amazing than you could imagine.

Orson Hyde was born in Oxford
and spent time growing up in Derby. The world knows him better
as one of the first of the Twelve Apostles of the Mormon Church
who came very close to being the head of the church.
