Tim Milenkevich of Ansonia captured his second straight Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race in a very fast time of 16 minutes flat on a cold and very blustery day on the streets of Derby and Shelton. He broke away from a pack of four runners at about the 1 mile mark and held the lead the rest of the way. Runner-up Bobby Giuliani stayed close behind until the very end when Milenkevich had opened his final margin of victory at 11 seconds. Tom Saksa of Seymour finished third at 16:39 and his brother Kevin finished fifth with a time of 17:30. Sandwiched in between the Saksa's, was Mike Padilla who won the very first race back in 2002. His time this year was 16:47 while he clocked a 16:08 the very first year which was the coldest in race history.

The top three finishers this year were also the top three a year ago, and in the same order. Kevin Saksa moved up from sixth to fifth this year.

Emily McNeil of Shelton became the first new Women’s Division winner in seven years when she posted an impressive win in a time of 19:24 which was more than a minute ahead of second place finisher Alicia Trudeau of Seymour. Lauren Flament of Shelton placed third at 20:55.

Overall, a record number of 648 runners completed the race in the frigid and windy weather. The race was expanded this year to 750 entrants and sold out by the middle of October. However, the strong winds seemed to discourage many, but our runners are a hardy lot and we thank them for their perseverance.

Proceeds from the race are donated to the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, and prior to this year the total amounted to more than $100,000.

We'll have much more to come later; but for now, here is your official order of finish:
