On the Sidelines - by Dana Tinti

The old Evening Sentinel was a daily chronicle of life in Derby and the surrounding towns. People looked forward to coming home from work to find an afternoon paper crammed with the serious and not-so-serious news of the Valley that couldn't be found in the larger regional newspapers. One of the regular features of the paper was the cartoon "On the Sidelines" pictured above which centered around sports, but included bits and pieces of other aspects of life in the Valley. Dana Tinti was the author, and he regularly struck the right balance between sports and life to bring his readers back for more.

Our thanks to Dan Santoro who shared this cartoon from his father "Trapper" Santoro's collection.

This quiz proved to be particularly difficult because it required both the correct name of the cartoon and the artist. We had a handful of people who got both correct, and several more who knew who the cartoonist was. We also had one respondent who had Mrs. Worrell as his sixth grade teacher!

Correct answers were received from: Fred Grant, Jack Vagnini, tony cannici, John M. Rak, Ann Searles, Randy Ritter, Rob Hyder, Nick from Terryvile, Bob Ahearn and Bruce Pettengill

Partially correct answers were received from: Patricia Villers, Frank from St Pete Beach, Joe Dedo, Pat Oates, FRED RAK JR, David N, Dave DeRosa , DOMINICK PAPALE, frank colonese, Stan Sroka, Jim Bartlett, and Eileen Krugel
