An Early Derby Church

St. Mary's Church celebrated the 75th anniversary of it's current church in 2007, but the original St. Mary's Church pictured above was erected in 1845 on land donated by Anson G. Phelps. It was about fifty feet by thirty-three feet in size and originally serviced a largely immigrant Irish population. It was subsequently enlarged at least twice. On June 25, the cornerstone for the current church was laid, and the new building was opened on November 21, 1883.
