The City of Derby celebrated itself under ideal weather conditions as thousands of people streamed across Elizabeth Street and the historic Birmingham Green enjoying entertainment, food and a variety of arts & crafts vendors. Derby Day was put on the the Derby Cultural Commission and it was a major success. Visitors from all over the state got a chance to sample the charm of one of the great traditional New England town greens under brilliant, sunny skies. Tours of the Sterling Opera House and the Yale's Gilder Boat House drew many and the first Derby Karaoke Idol contest drew some spirited competition.
