Olde Derby Day 2001

Olde Derby Day entertainment set for Sunday, June 24

Coasters roll into Derby

The historic Derby Green is the location and June 24 is the date that the Derby Cultural Commission's Olde Derby Day will feature New England's premier Beatle tribute band "Abbey Road" and 50's singing group "The Cornell Gunter Coasters" from 3 to 8pm.

Abbey Road, 1997 Hartford Advocate Winner as "Best Tribute Band", does it all from the British invasion of the mid-sixties, through the psychedelic years, and into the studio recording years. From their suits and haircuts to their speaking and stage humor, Abbey Road has produced an incredible re-creation of the "fab four".

2001 marks the 35th anniversary of the formation of Cornell Gunter's Coasters out of the ashes of the surprising breakup of the original Coaster group several months earlier. Featuring such 50's and 60's classics as "Yakety Yak", "Charlie Brown" and "Poison Ivy", the Cornell Gunter's Coasters are sure to entertain.

"We are very excited with the caliber of entertainment we have for this year's Olde Derby Day celebration" stated Derby Cultural
Commission Chairman Randy Ritter. "And we are happy to hold the event on the Derby Green again", Ritter added.

In addition to the entertainment, Olde Derby Day will feature a variety of food and craft booths on the Derby Green from 3 to 8pm. A limited amount of space is still available for craft and food vendors. Contact Jennifer Barriga at 732-8554 for more information.

Olde Derby Day is co-sponsored by The Valley Times.
