Breaking Ground for Derby's Synagogue

As you can see from the picture above, the laying of a cornerstone was a big event for the community, and this 1920 event was one of those special days. The city's Jewish community was laying the cornerstone for the building of the Congregation Sons of Israel Temple on Anson Street. We want to thank Derby High graduate Bonnie Berman for providing us with these extraordinary pictures that included the names of many of the people in the picture as you can see from the listing above.

Sadly, there is no synagogue in Derby, or in the Valley for that matter. You can check an earlier quiz related to the synagogue showing the completed synagogue along with a video about the later Beth Israel Synagogue on Elizabeth Street which closed in the early 1990's and is now the New Life Community Church.

This quiz turned out to be even tougher than the last one with only three correct answers!
