"New" Irving School - 1954

Derby City Hall stood on this parcel of land until it moved to Elizabeth Street in 2005. It was previously the site of the "old" Irving School (left). The site at the corner of Olivia and Fifth Streets also served as the home of the Birmingham High School before the Derby High School was built on Minerva Street in 1906. The old school was torn down in 1954 when the "New Irving" School opened on Seymour Avenue. The first principal (and subject of this quiz) was Helen Ryan.
