Chicago, IL

Chicago received more fountains than any other city in the country -four! They received them in 1912, and we believe they were all of the same smaller type fountains. The fountains were formally dedicated on April 26, 1912.

We have some uncertainty about the actual locations of the fountains. The article above says that one was placed in front of the headquarters of the Anti-Cruelty headquarters and the other three were placed at busy traffic corners. The very top picture shows the location at 155 W. Grand Avenue while the picture below is from time after 1936 when this building replaced it on W. Grand Avenue with one of the fountains still in place. The building is still there today, but the fountain is not.

So, where are the Chicago fountains? We're still looking!
