Jackson, MI

Jackson, MI was the only city in Michigan to get a fountain and it received it in 1907. The picture above shows it in Liberty Square, and it's interesting to see that a dog rather than a horse got the first drink from the fountain! Few people realize that the fountain had several homes throughout its life before assuming its current location in Blackman Park. For decades it stood by the post office on Ostego Avenue before it was removed and put into storage in pieces at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Around 2003, philanthropist Betty Dahlem Desbiens was responsible for its restoration and placement in the park. You can see from the Google picture below that it's beautiful piece in the park and the original light on top has a new look, but we are not sure exactly what it is!
