Student Posters Teach History & Civics
One of the great community features of the Commodore Hull Thanksgiving
Day 5K Road Race is its annual effort to involve local schools in
producing posters that feature the race and its ties to
Commodore Hull. For the students, its
an opportunity to combine a lesson in history and civics at the same
time. Not only are they learning about one of the greatest naval heroes
in U.S. history, but they are also learning about the value of giving
back to the community. Their posters will be on display at the Farmers
Market during the course of packet pick-ups and again on race day.
Following the race, the posters are presented to race sponsors in
appreciation for their support of the race.
The students are also rewarded with a pizza party for their hard work
thanks to our sponsors. Last year's poster sponsors were
David M. Grant Caterers, Valley Roofing and Siding, and Drs. Dworkin,
Stein & Lerman Dental Group. Posters were prepared by Elizabeth Shelton
School (Miss Garbutt, teacher) Booth Hill School (Mrs. Moore, teacher),
St. Mary-St. Michael (Mrs. Vernazza, teacher) Bradley School - 3 classes
(Mr. Foley/Mrs. Piccolo/Mrs. Andrews, teachers).
