Shelton's Riverwalk - Start & Finish Point

Home

The course was changed in 2003. Click here for info.

The course for the inaugural Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Race provided a blend of history, scenery and New England charm as runners twice crossed over the Housatonic River as they traveled from Shelton to Derby and back to Shelton. There will be some minor modifications for 2003. The race begins on the banks of the Housatonic in Shelton on the spectacular new Riverwalk. The area was once the site of the largest case of industrial arson in American history, but today has been reclaimed as a valuable greenway in the downtown area of Shelton.

Farmers Market

Veterans Memorial

Downtown Shelton is undergoing a major change and the Riverwalk and the adjacent Farmers Market and Veterans Memorial Park are bringing new beauty and vitality to the area. The Market will serve as race day headquarters with ample park behind the building.

Derby Public Library marks the turn-around point

The race will begin and end on the Riverwalk, but along the way, it will traverse Canal Street and Howe Avenue in Shelton before crossing the Derby/Shelton Bridge onto Main Street in Derby. It then will head up Elizabeth Street in Derby past the historical Sterling Opera House and the beautiful Town Green on its way to the turn around point at the Derby Public Library where the runners will make their turn and head for home virtually along the same course.
