Ansonia High School Virtual Reality Tour – Students create a virtual tour of the High School and post it on the school’s web site. Parents will have the opportunity to take part in the training sessions.  (Paul Lucke, Teacher, Ansonia High School).

Ansonia-Seymour Historical Connections – Two fifth grade classes in Ansonia and two fifth grade classes in Seymour will work together to study the connection between the two towns’ histories. (John Danusiar, Teacher, Willis School, Ansonia).

Ansonia’s Women in History – Students will identify, research and interview women who have significantly contributed to the history of Ansonia.  (Paula Tyszka, Teacher, Mead School, Ansonia).

Author’s Tea – Students will write and illustrate a story which is published in a book format. Students read their story at a special tea party for parents, family and community members.                        (Amy O’Brien, Teacher, Peck School, Ansonia).

Laurel Ledge Science Fair – Students create, display and present science projects at a science fair which is judged by 50 community members, and attended by parents and community members. (Donna Cole, Teacher, Laurel Ledge School, Beacon Falls).

Home-School Connection Workshops – A series of hands-on parenting and literacy workshops are offered to parents and their children.                                                                                          (Linda Coppola, Teacher, Irving School, Derby).

The Art, Science & History of Photography – Students will learn the mechanics and history of photography, as well as aesthetic aspects. Students will create a pin hole camera, capture photographic images, critique each other’s work, create a visual display and invite parents and community members to a special opening event.                                                                     (Susan Purcella, Teacher, Great Oak School, Oxford).

Millenium Miles – Students, staff, families and community members will walk a total of 2,000 miles together to build a sense of togetherness and community.                                                          (Alisa Wright & Michael Eisenbach, Teachers, Oxford Center School, Oxford).

Skills for Success – Alternative education students will receive life skills training through innovative videos and visual displays, with the involvement of parents and the community.                           (Tom Nash & Bob Rousseau, Social Worker & Psychologist, Great Oak School, Oxford).

You Can Make a Difference Too – Students will learn about Christmas traditions in different families and countries and learn sensitivity toward those in need during the holidays by integrating reading, spelling, writing and current events.                                                                                                  (Katherine Baird, Teacher, Great Oak School, Oxford).

Overcoming Newton’s Apple – Students will learn about the force of gravity and apply this knowledge to the principles of flight, aerodynamics and aviation, with the participation of parents and the community.                                                                                                                     (Matthew Damone, Teacher, Bungay School, Seymour).

Supportive Parenting Program – A series of workshops for parents on parenting and child guidance issues, to provide parents with the knowledge and resources to utilize better child rearing practices.  (Kim Leoni, Counselor, Anna LoPresti School, Seymour).

Community Awareness & Exploration – To increase awareness of community resources among special education students through a series of field trips to community agencies and organizations. The project will help enhance students’ self-esteem and make them more independent.              (Tracy Nolan, Teacher, Ripton School, Shelton).

Culture From Around the World – A multi-cultural project to expose special needs students to music, culture and food from around the world. The program will culminate in a special "Music from Around the World" performance by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra.                                  (Arlene Kaye, Speech & Language Pathologist, Ripton School, Shelton).

Flowers for Giving – A professional from the community will teach special education students about planting bulbs and caring for plants. When the plants are in bloom, the students will deliver them to convalescent homes in the community.                                                                                       (Beth Smith, Special Education Department Chair, Shelton High School).

Healthy Kids – Students will work on a collaborative research project to create a web site on children’s health. Students will research health topics with the help of teachers, parents, local libraries, Griffin Hospital and Southern CT State University.                                                          (Joan Tichy, Media Specialist, Lafayette School, Shelton).

Hospital Helpers – Students create craft projects which they will deliver to children’s floor at Griffin Hospital on a monthly basis.                                                                                                     (Cheryl Morrill, Teacher, Long Hill School, Shelton).

Planting the Seeds of Education –In conjunction with a landscaping consultant, students will help create a "natural" outdoor learning site, which will be used to study botany and horticulture. Businesses will be asked to donate materials, Emmett O’Brien will build benches, and community groups and parents will help maintain the area.                                                                        (Beverly Belden & Annine Crystal, Teachers, Sunnyside School, Shelton).

Shelton Intergenerational Project - Alternative education students work with and provide companionship to Seniors at Shelton Lakes Health Care Center on a number of projects including baking, gardening, arts & crafts, computers and bingo.                                                             (Jenny Dagostine & Gail Reiss Gibbons, Teachers, Shelton Intermediate School).

The Stock Market Game – Students will work in teams to play the Connecticut Post’s Stock Market Game. The teams invest a fictitious $100,000 in stocks, and track the stocks using graphs, fractions and percentages. A financial consultant and an employee of People’s Bank will come to the classroom and provide guidance to the students.                                                                      (Vivian Birdsall, Teacher, Shelton Intermediate School).

Teen Community Outreach Program – Special education students will participate in a variety of volunteer projects at local agencies throughout the school year including the Boys & Girls Club, Spooner House, Ronald McDonald House, Hewitt Convalescent Home, Adopt-a-Garden Program and Ripton School.                                                                                                                          (Kathy Maffucci & Margo Zboray, Teacher & School Psychologist, Shelton Intermediate School).

Together Everyone Accomplishes More – Gifted and talented students will work in small groups with developmentally delayed students to develop and produce marketable products. The activities will demonstrate the relevance and relationship of the school-to-work transition.                                  (Joan Shaw & Lorraine Conway, Teachers, Ripton School & Shelton Intermediate School).

Together We Can Make a Difference – Parents attend a series of hands-on training sessions with their children, in which parents are taught strategies and techniques to use when working with their children at home.                                                                                                                                       (Pat Banfe & Janet Baldwin, Title I Parent Coordinator and Teacher, Lafayette School, Shelton).
