Derby Mayor Marc Garofalo headed a delegation of four representing the Naugatuck River Valley at the All America City Reception held on Wednesday, November 1. As the Chair of the Valley's Council of Elected Officials, Garofalo accepted a special plaque as did representatives of each of the ten winning communities from all across the country.

Andrew Cuomo, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, represented President Clinton at the ceremony.  He praised the winning communities noting that, "Community is an art form and you do it better than anyone else. You are 10 candles lighting the way to what is possible."

The other members of the Valley delegation were selected in a lottery drawing of members of the delegation that represented the Valley in the competition held in June in Louisville. The lucky members were Arlene Greco, Pamela Jones and Allison Younkin.
