City to Receive $250,000 for Redevelopment

Funds to be used in "Halo" area

The City of Derby received notification from Governor Rell’s Office that it would receive $250,000 for downtown redevelopment. This is the first of two economic development bond authorizations that Derby’s State Delegation helped secure. The City’s request was $250,000 for the removal and shoring up of blighted buildings in the former HALO area.

Mayor Staffieri is focusing his attention on eradicating blight and restoring the neighborhoods in the Olivia Street, Anson/Layayette Street areas.

The Second request is for $250,000 for a match to a federal grant that will help construct a road into the former DOT parcel. It is important in a city of Derby’s size that we make available all industrial commercial property and help create opportunities to access valuable parcels of land for economic development. This money will go towards improving and accessing this site.
