Day 5 - Flag and Family

Sunday was a day for flag and family as the visiting delegations visited Derby City Hall for a flag raising ceremony in honor of Columbus Day. Because of the inclement weather, the flag raising was preceded by a short ceremony in the Aldermanic Chamber. Mayor Garofalo welcomed everyone present, and then State Senator Joe Crisco and State Representative Vin Tonucci presented Mayor Bartone and the other delegates with an official citation from the State of Connecticut recognizing the new sister city relationship.

Mayor Bartone thanked everyone present and then presented gifts to Crisco and Tonucci representing the Sate of Connecticut on behalf of the people of Puglianello. Alderman Ferdinando Creta then spoke of the significant cultural advantages of the new relationship and presented Crisco and Tonucci historical and cultural books, pamphlets and pictures highlighting Puglinello.

The entire party then stepped outside where the Italian flag was raised proudly under the American flag on the flagpole outside City Hall. Many in the group then walked the short distance to Altimari's Little Italy for refreshments.

The rest of Sunday was taken up by visits to family relatives in the area before heading to Roseland Pizza for their evening meal.
