Clinton, MO

Clinton, Missouri received notice of  its fountain from the National Humane Alliance in 1912 after a two year campaign by the local Humane Society to acquire it. However there is some confusion on the ate as the plaque on the fountain says 1911, so we will list it as such. However, the Henry County Democrat reported that the city had been notified that the NHA had voted to award the fountain on May 2, 1912. The Republican newspaper reported its arrival in January 1913. The Henry County Democrat reported that it was initially placed on the southwest corner of the town square in May, 1913 with an electrical light added. It was later moved to the northwest corner of the Henry County Courthouse lawn and by 1965 to its current position in the southeast corner as seen above and in this street view. This is the original location on the southwest corner

Moved to the northwest corner in the 1920s

The good news is that this fountain still exists and is now out of the middle of the street and much safer from automobile traffic.
