Iola, KS

We do not know a lot about the National Humane Alliance fountain in Iola and we're not positive that they did receive one. What we do know is that the newspapers reported that Lewis Seaver, secretary and treasurer of the National Humane Alliance, had visited Iola and selected the intersection of Jackson and Washington streets as the location for it. It was also reported that the owners of the site had to give their approval to put it there and they did.

Miss Grace Acers, with the support of the Current Events Club had written to Seaver to request the fountain. It took years for Seaver to reply that he would be in nearby Independence, KS and would visit Iola to see if it would qualify for one of the fountains.

It was reported that the city would provide a base for the fountain and the The Booster Club would pay for the freight.

We have found no other evidence of further action, so we have marked Iola as uncertain for a National Humane Alliance Fountain.
