Mayfield, KY

As you can see, Mayfield received its round top style fountain in 1911. “It was presented to the City and  the Woman’s Club by the National Humane Alliance. This fountain was secured through Mrs. George T. Fuller, president of the Woman’s Club in 1910. The fountain was erected during the administration of Mrs. Ed Ligon as President of the Club.” From Mayfield Through a Century by D Trabue Davis, 1923 pg 82.

The fountain originally stood at the intersection of South Sixth and College Streets. However, an automobile accident put it into a state of disrepair and the city eventually put it into storage. Years later, it was repaired and placed at Harmon Park by the Laurel Oak Garden Club. Thought the fountain is not working, it was placed in an area surrounded by seating and pleasant landscaping for all to enjoy. Information courtesy of D.L. Parsons
