Waterville, ME

We didn't know much about the fountain in Waterville, Maine other than the fact that it is one of the smaller fountains and that it still exists in a small park on Common Street where it was first located. It looks as though the spigots and plaque are missing and the water isn't running, but you never know what the future brings!

However, we have recently discovered in 1907 editions of the Morning Sentinel in Waterville that the fountain was offered to the city in November 1907. It was Mayor Bunker who heard about the fountains and the National Humane Alliance and decided to pursue a fountain for Waterville even though it was smaller than most of the other cities selected. The Kennebec water district offered to provide the water at no cost, and the fountain arrived in Waterville on November 28, 1907 and was set up in City Hall Square.
