Hawthorne School

The Hawthorne School was built on Hawthorne Avenue in 1882 and served the Derby School District until about 1964. It was located on land now serving as the home for the Derby Neck Library. The building of additional classrooms at Bradley School allowed the wooden structure to be closed and ultimately demolished. In its last years, the school housed only first and second grades, but it did hold other grades earlier in its history. The Derby Neck Library also got its original start in this building.

This quiz proved a bit tougher than some recent ones. Correct answers were received from: Mary Lou Boroski, Mayor Marc Garofalo, Brian McMahon, Rick Dunne,  Ann Searles, Tom Carey,  Catherine Kelleher, Jack Sheehy, Bernard Williamson, Clarence Douglass and Randy Ritter.
