Joey Stein, Jamie Cohen (President of Valley Community Foundation), Tom
Wilson (Race Director) and David Stein are all smiles knowing that the VCF
is supporting the race again this year
One of the things that makes the Commodore Hull Thanksgiving
Day 5K Race so special is the discount rates offered to students and the
free registration offered to all runners in the 70 and over Divisions of the
race. The reason that that happens is quite simple - As the Major Youth and
Senior sponsor, The
Valley Community Foundation subsidizes those parts of the race, and this
is the third year that they have done so. Jamie Cohen, President of the
Valley Community Foundation recently met with Race Director Tom Wilson and
two Shelton High School students, Joey and David Stein, who are regular
participants in the race to give Wilson the good news.
Carl Sylvester is one of the "Grand Golden Masters"
Tom said, "The Valley Community Foundation support is very
special to us as we view this as a tremendous community event in which we
encourage people of all ages to run in the race. The Stein brothers and
their entire family have been regular participants in the race. Last year
four Stein family members ran, and the Foundation support really helps to
encourage both our younger and older runners". He also noted that runners
like 77 year old Carl Sylvester who is also a member of the race committee
find that the free registration for older runners is a great incentive for
seniors to run and also serve as role models for younger runners. He added,
"It fits in
well with our mission to make the Valley a better place to live and work,
both now and in the future".
Jamie Cohen, President of the Valley Community Foundation
said, "This race has grown into a great holiday tradition for the community
that we serve. It promotes the history of our community, encourages
healthy lifestyles and also raises funds to support a very worthy agency, the
Boys & Girls Club".
So once again, we thank the Valley Community Foundation for
all that they do - not only for the Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road
race, but for their work to improve the entire community.
