The Katharine Matthies Foundation is a perpetual trust. The trust is a legacy of Katharine Matthies, a lifelong Seymour resident and benefactor, who died in June, 1987. Income from the trust is used to support educational, religious, charitable, scientific and literary purposes and for the prevention of cruelty to children and animals. The sole trustee of the Foundation is Fleet Bank.
Grants are restricted to tax-exempt, non-profit organizations. Grants awards are targeted to benefit residents of Seymour, Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Shelton or Beacon Falls. Special consideration is given to programs that benefit Seymour residents.
The goal of funded programs should be to respond to social and community issues and needs. The Foundation will give special consideration to programs and services which are: innovative and creative; involve multiple community organizations; seek to obtain matching grants and funds; and demonstrate a broadly based public support.
Grant applications must be made on prescribed forms and submitted no later than May 1st of each year. The completed application form must be mailed to following address with a postmark by the deadline date. Deadlines are strictly enforced. All grants are awarded at the complete discretion of the Trustee:
