Seneca, Kansas
A New Life & Location for an Old Fountain
Cutting the ribbon May 7, 2021
The fountain in
Seneca, Kansas is now fully restored and the water is flowing once again as
of May 7, 2021 when a ribbon cutting was held to mark another milestone in
the life of the fountain. Much of the work had been completed in 2020 with
the exception of installing the new light and then COVID struck and the
project hit some delays.
Jim Mitchell, a
Seneca Council member, served as the leader/coordinator for the project. Jim
is in the blue t-shirt on the right side of the fountain. Some of the others
in the picture starting from the left are Dean Luckeroth, who handled much
of the masonry work; Kylee Luckeroth, Council member and Chamber of Commerce
executive director; and Julie Strathman for the STEP Foundation. On the
right side next to Jim are Phil Boeding, plumber; Tori Jost, STEP
Foundation, Jerri Stallbaumer, genral contractor; and Marceil Hasenkamp,
STEP foundation.
One other person not in the
picture who deserves recognition is David Harris of Light and Time Design
Studio who made the new lions heads and refurbished the plaque. We want to
thank all of those who helped restore this beautiful and historical
fountain.
Earlier update:
We want to thank Janet Hicks for letting us know that the fountain in
Seneca, Kansas is being restored and on June 13, 2020 the water was turned
on at its new location at Main and 6th Street. You can read the earlier
history that we had previously posted here.
The restoration is not quite complete yet as a restored version of the
lights on top of the fountain will soon be in place.
A 2018 grant obtained through the
Nemaha County STEP
Foundation paid for the restoration and move to it's new home on the corner
of Main and 6th Streets on the lawn of the Seneca Free library,
