
Class of 2019
Mayor Richard Dziekan is pleased to announce the
selection of the 13th anniversary class for the Derby
Hall of Fame. This year's class of three chosen by the Hall of Fame
Committee brings the number of Hall members
to 52.
Mayor Dziekan said, "Dziekan said, “This
year's class includes the greatest football player to come out of Derby
and the Valley, Derby's unofficial poet laureate and an Air Force hero
who distinguished himself in three of America's wars.

Brief descriptions of the members of the Class of 2019 (Click on

Bob Skoronski
was the greatest football player to ever come from Derby or the Valley.
A star at Fairfiled Prep and Indiana University he went on to a
legendary career with the Green Bay Packers that included five NFL
championships and the first two Super Bowl titles. He was co-captain of
those Super Bowl teams and is a member of the Green bay Packers Hall of
Fame.
Col. George H. Kneen
distinguished himself throughout a long career with the Army Air Corps
which later became the Air Force. He enlisted in time for the start of
WWII and flew a wide variety of air combat missions during WWII and the
Korean War and earned a remarkable string of distinguished honors from
the Air Force for his service.
John Whiting Storrs
was a reporter, photographer, newspaper editor who reported on Derby and
Valley news during the mid and later 1800’s. Many call him Derby’s “Poet
Laureate” as he was called on regularly to commemorate in poetry some of
the great events in Derby history including the dedication of the
Ousatonic Dam and the dedication of the War of the Rebellion monument on
the Birmingham Green.
