What has 772 legs, 386 smiling faces, eats 1200 pizzas, donated 100 mittens, 4000 cans of food and $1500 in spare change to charity, works in three teams, wears blue, gold and white on Spirit Day, and has a Cougar for a mascot?


It's "The Best School in the Valley"-- SEYMOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL ! 

 

Home of the Seymour Cougars and Cougarettes: 187 seventh graders (105 boys, 82 girls) and 183 eighth graders (103 boys, 88 girls).

Home of three interdisciplinary teams comprised of five teachers and 125-130 seventh and eighth grade students in each team with classes in English, Reading, Spelling, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Home of varied "special" and "exploratory" programs such as Art, Computers, Foreign Languages (French and Spanish), Health, Physical Education and Woodshop.

Home of additional programs such as Algebra, Jostens Learning Computer Labs, Pre-Vocational Technology and the Valley-wide Televised ESL Learning Program.  Home of a comprehensive Special Education Program that offers self-contained, selected resource curriculum programs along with team-taught inclusion programs.

Home of "Gemini": the Talented and Gifted Program.

Home of the SMS Blue and Gold Honor Roll / Perfect Attendance / Citizen Award Breakfast held three times a year

Home of COUGAR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY:

 

The outstanding and highly successful Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive where over 4000 cans or items of food have been donated each year for the past five years

The SMS Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Bingo / Chorale Sing / Pizza Party

The SMS Mitten Tree which miraculously sprouted over 100 pairs of gloves, mittens, scarves and hats to go along with the coats that were donated to the needy

The Penny War which collected over $1500 in change

And the SMS Student Council / Muscular Dystrophy / Super Dance program, which raised $6000 for MDA
