Italian Delegation Says Goodbye Derby

Mayor Bartone at the American Stock Exchange

Our Italian guests (Mayor Tonino Bartone, Alderman Ferdinando Creta and Alderman Antoni Viscusi) are gone - but definitely not forgotten! After spending a full week visiting Derby and the surrounding area, by car, van, plane and boat, the delegation packed their bags and headed for New York for a last bit of site seeing before catching their return flight to Italy. They had one last chance to view the Big Apple including a trip to Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. They also visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

It has been an exhausting and rewarding time for the delegates, Derby Mayor Marc Garofalo who put the whole thing together and everyone else who helped to make the trip so successful. The trip capped a year in which a Derby delegation traveled to Puglianello and the Italians visited Derby. The Derby High School band and chorus took the next step in cementing the cultural relationship when they visited Italy and Puglianello in 2003. Click here for pictures.
