One of the major keys to running a successful road race is
to have caring, supportive sponsors, and though only in its first year,
the Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race has been fortunate in
rounding up just such a group. To start with, the race has the support of
both Shelton and Derby and their respective mayors and recreation
departments. In addition, the major sponsor for this year's inaugural
race is our t-shirt sponsor
Greco & Haines, Inc.

Greco
& Haines has made possible the heavyweight cotton long sleeve t-shirt
pictured above that will be given to all runners. They will also be
providing water bottles, coffee mugs and
key chains that will be part of the runners package
which will be distributed to the first 300 registered runners. Shelton is
also the home of the Wiffle Ball, and
the runner's packet will include one for each participant.
Nail clippers from Shelton's
W. E. Bassett Trim will also be part
of the runner's gift packet. And if all that is not enough,
Bruegger's Bagels will be providing
coupons for free bagels as part of
every runner's pack. The
t-shirts were designed by Allan and Mike Esposito of SUNBACKLIT in Derby
and feature the Commodore jogging along with his admiralty uniform and a
spiffy pair of running shoes.
Prizes
are a major part of any race, and Mony Kohn of Hubbell Brothers Shoe
Store in Derby stepped forward to provide running shoes to the male and
female winners. Hubbell Bothers is the oldest shoe store in Connecticut
and fits in nicely with the historic theme of the race. Runners will pass
right by the store when they first enter downtown Derby.

Bruegger's Bagels is the official bagel sponsor for this
year's race, and runners will enjoy a steady supply as part of the pre and
post race refreshments. Poland Springs water is being provided by United
Cigar. Radio Station WICC 600 in Bridgeport is the
official radio sponsor of the race and will be providing information about
the race. Among the many raffle prizes for runners will be running
calendars, diaries, bags, hats and sunglasses from Runner's World
Magazine.
