Tim Milenkevich and Kim Battipaglia Win 11th Annual Commodore Hull Road Race
Tim Milenkevich and Bobby Giuliani broke from a pack of four runners that included Robert Yamnicky and Tom Saksa to stage a two man duel for the 2012 Commodore Hull Road Race. Tim ran in fourth place in the early going with Yamnicky holding the lead until the pack crossed over the Derby/Shelton Bridge. At that point Giuliani took over the lead. By the time they reached Main Street in Derby, Giuliani had about a 20 yard lead over Milenkevich. As they reached the historic Derby Green, Tim took his first lead of the day.
They were virtually neck and neck until they got back on the Derby/Shelton Bridge when Tim opened a slight lead. As they turned onto Howe Avenue, Tim's lead was about 10 yards, and he continued to increase the lead to the final gap of 12 seconds as Tim finished in 15:56 and Bobby was at 16:06. Saksa and Yamnicky maintainted their spots in the top five with times of 16:54 and 17:04 respectively. Bart Wasiolek almost caught Yamnicky at the end as he finished in 17:05.
In winning for the sixth straight year, Battipaglia dominated the Women's Division. Her winning time of 19:45 put her well ahead of Kelsey Grimmer's second place time of 20:26. Lauren Flament was third in 21:38. Cassandra Gucwa's 21:46 and Molly Duffy's 21:57 rounded out the top five.
There were 625 finishers in this year's race.
