Children who read regularly become better readers. With that in mind, all Seymour Elementary Schools are sponsoring a reading incentive program this spring. The Chatfield School challenge is to read 1,400 books starting February 2nd and continuing until the last week of April. For every three books a child reads, he or she may fill out the raffle form below and place it in the envelope provided in their classroom. If your child is in 4th, 5th or 6th grade, every 150 pages will count as one book. Parents may read books to their younger children. We encourage you to do this.

At the close of the program, three names will be drawn at random, at each grade level. In addition the three top readers, in each grade, (students who have read the most books) will also be named. All these children will be taken on a field trip to the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport to see a planetarium show and then be treated to lunch. Thanks to our PTA who has graciously agreed to fund this.

As a culminating activity, if the children reach their goal of 1,400 books, their principal, along with the other elementary principals, will “Kiss a Llama” at a special “reading day” party.

My challenge to our students is to read, read, read and then there will be no way out for me! I will have to kiss that llama in front of all the students!

I ask you to encourage your children to participate and read. Everyone who reads will be a winner!
