Derby Rejects New High School & Renovated Middle School

Voters decided to reject all aspects of both the School Expansion Plan and Recreation Facilities Enhancement Plan for Derby. In an effort to keep voters informed, these pages presented the plan with background information to help make educated decisions about the plan. The referendum was held on Saturday, June 10. The plan called for the building of a new high school adjacent to the existing high school which will be renovated into a new middle school. The plan also incorporated a major upgrade to the athletic facilities within the Ryan Athletic Complex planned by the Recreation Facilities Enhancement Committee which would have created a very functional campus setting.

Schematics prepared by the architect (These files may be extremely slow to load, but will give you a colorful view of the proposed floor plan.) You will see slides showing the existing building followed by slides showing the two levels of the renovated middle school followed by the floor plan for the four levels of the new high school.

Costs - The total cost of the project was $39,257,812, but Derby citizens would have paid $22,179,001 after the state reimbursement was subtracted from the total cost.
