One Room Schoolhouse

Continuing to the bottom of Rimmon Hill Road where it meets Pines Bridge Road (Rt. 42) on your left you’ll come upon the old one room schoolhouse, built in 1779. This is not a public building!!

The one room schoolhouse is the oldest municipal building in Beacon Falls. Originally, this property was located in Derby, then became part of Oxford in 1798 and transferred to Beacon Falls upon its incorporation in 1871. The school began with grades 1-8, then reduced to grades 1-5 and finally closed in 1948. Now privately owned and maintained as a civic treasure, it still contains original blackboards, cupboards, books, fire extinguisher and clock!

Take a right at the stop sign on Pinsebridge Road. Go .1 mile and turn left on Old Pinesbridge Road. At the bottom of the hill, bear left on Lopus Road. Along the way, you can take a side trip to the Pent Road Athletic Complex or Toby's Mountain.
