a rich heritage...
a diverse population...
a progresive business environment...
Shelton, Connecticut, is a
community deeply rooted in the past, but with its eyes focused clearly
on the future. Country settings, urban sophistication and the scenic
splendor of New England combine to form a rich pattern of life.
Settled around 1700, Shelton was originally incorporated in 1789
as the Town of Huntington and as the City of Shelton in 1919. Comprising
31.4 square miles at the northeast edge of
Fairfield
County, our population now stands at 38,000 residents and we
continue to be one of the fastest growing communities in Connecticut.
From our earliest days as an industrial center in the historic Housatonic
River Valley, Shelton is now known for its community pride and dedication
to innovative development. Today, the perfect blend of a pleasant
residential community and a fertile business environment exists
within our boundaries. We have one of the state's lowest and predictable
tax rates, and one of its lowest unemployment rates.
With forward looking leadership, available and affordable housing,
and true community spirit, we're more than just a city of business.
Shelton is a special place, committed to maintaining a caring community
of hardworking, innovative people who share the same dedication
and values.
